Puppy Care
This is a list of supplies we suggest to purchase in preparation for your new Yorkie puppy. These supplies will ensure that the introduction of a new home is as stress free as possible for a 2-3lb 12 week old baby Yorkie. Most of these items can be purchased on Chewy.com or Amazon.com.
Puppy Pen
Our puppies are used to being in a puppy playpen. Recommendations include the “Iris Puppy Pen” available at Chewy.com. This is a 24" High by 36” Long plastic play pen with a door.
Travel
Another portable wire type is 8x24x8 with water proof liner that can fit into your suitcase for travel available at www.seabreeze.com. Puppy pens are portable and provide a safe place to play, sleep, eat and use their potty pads.
Food
Food dishes should be ceramic so the puppy will not tip them over. We feed and recommend Royal Canin Yorkie puppy food. It can be purchased at local Petsmart or Petco in addition to online at Chewy.com A large water bottle will keep the puppy and floor dry. These can also be purchased at Chewy.com.
Potty Pads
Piddle or potty pads can be widely purchased online or at any pet stores, Target, Walmart, etc. Always keep Piddle pads in view of your puppy when out of the play pen.
Sleep
A small crate with a bed in it will be where the puppy sleeps at night. If placed near your own bed, puppy won’t feel so alone at night.
Bathing
Most Yorkies need bathed at least once a month but are usually brushed at least weekly. These are the types of combs and brushes that work best on Yorkie puppies. There are a wide variety of good quality moisturizing shampoos and conditioner for puppies as well as other grooming products at petedge.com.
Harness
Harness style collars and leashes work best for Yorkies as they have fragile necks.
Toys
Last but not least, there can never be too many puppy toys. Soft squeaky toys are the best!
